What are the holidays in Israel for schoolchildren
In Israel there are Jewish schools and mixed ones. Education in mixed schools is available for Muslims, Christians and Druze. Their schooling schedule may vary. In schools with a large percentage of the Muslim population, the duration of the lessons for Ramadan may be reduced. There may also be separate weekends for religious holidays.
Jewish schools in Israel have four vacation periods:
- Holidays for Sukkot (1 week);
- Holidays for Hanukkah (1 week);
- Easter holidays (Pesach), 2 weeks;
- Summer holidays (2 months).
The start and end dates of vacations are determined by the Israeli Ministry of Education. Summer vacation usually starts on July 1st and ends on August 31st, but dates can be changed by 1-2 days. The rest of the holidays are tied to religious dates and holidays.
In addition to the usual vacations, schoolchildren in Israel have a rest on major religious and national holidays. These include:
- Purim;
- Independence Day;
- Lag B’Omer;
- Shavuot;
- Rosh Hashanah;
- Yom Kippur.
The schedule of the academic year and school holidays in Israel is compiled separately. It is determined annually by the Ministry of Education. Although, in reality, the dates of school holidays and days off are easy to calculate. The Minister of Education, in fact, simply approves the schedule of the academic year in Israeli schools.

During the school year, the Israeli Ministry of Education may change vacation dates. It depends on various reasons and is extremely rare. For example, this was the case during the COVID-19 epidemic.
