Features of school holidays in Poland

Study and rest periods for Polish schoolchildren are determined in accordance with the decrees of the Minister of National Education and Sports of April 18, 2002 and August 12, 2017.

There are four vacation periods in Poland:

  1. Winter holiday break (Christmas vacation);
  2. Winter holidays;
  3. Spring holiday break (Easter vacation);
  4. Summer holidays.

The dates of the winter holidays differ depending on the voivodeship. They are divided into 4 groups, which you can see below.

It is worth noting that we indicate the dates of school holidays for public schools in Poland, where education is conducted in Polish. They are known and approved by the minister. If you are interested in international school holiday schedules, you need to visit your school’s website.

Schedule of school holidays in Poland 2022-2023

Here are the start and end dates of the school holidays in Poland for the 2022-2023 academic year. Pay attention to the winter holidays, their dates differ depending on the voivodeship!

  • Winter holiday break: from December 23 to 31, 2022;
  • Winter holidays:
    • Lower Silesian, Masovian, Opole and Western Pomeranian Voivodeships: from February 13 to 26, 2023;
    • Podlaskie and Warmian-Masurian Voivodeships: from January 23 to February 5, 2023;
    • Lublin, Lodz, Subcarpathian, Pomeranian and Silesian Voivodeships: from January 16 to 29, 2023;
    • Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Lubuskie, Lesser Poland, Świętokrzyskie and Wielkopolska Voivodeships: from January 30 to February 12, 2023.
  • Spring holiday break: from April 6 to 11, 2023;
  • Summer holidays: from June 24 to August 31, 2023.

Additional days off for Polish schoolchildren in 2022-2023

Schoolchildren in Poland also rest on public holidays. If a holiday falls during the study period, classes are not held on that day. Below is a list of such holiday weekends:

  • November 1, 2022 – All Saints’ Day;
  • November 11, 2022 – Independence Day;
  • January 1, 2023 – New Year;
  • January 6, 2023 – Epiphany;
  • May 1, 2023 – Labor Day;
  • May 3, 2023 – Constitution Day;
  • May 28, 2023 – Pentecost (Green Holidays);
  • June 8, 2023 – Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ.
