School holidays in Turkey 2022-2023

In this publication, School-Holidays.Info will tell you about school holidays in Turkey 2022-2023. You will find out the start and end dates of summer and winter holidays, semester breaks. We have also provided a list of national holidays on which Turkish schools do not work.

Features of the academic year in Turkish schools

The academic year in Turkey consists of two semesters. They are separated by a two-week vacation. Each semester is divided into two parts. Between them, Turkish students have one week of rest (semester break). In general, the semesters and school holidays in Turkey 2022-2023 are arranged as follows:

First half of the first semester;
First semester break;
Second half of the first semester;
Semester (winter) holidays;
First half of the second semester;
Second semester break;
Second half of the second semester.

Dates of school holidays, beginning and end of the academic year are set by the General Directorate of Secondary Education. School holidays in Turkey 2022-2023 approved by the Minister of Education Ziya Selçuk. All the information below is certified and published in a letter dated 07/06/2021 under the number E.2785522.

IMPORTANT! For Grade 1 students, the school year will start one week earlier. They’ll have an integration period. It will start on Monday September 5th and end on Friday September 9th inclusive.

School holidays in Turkey 2022-2023

Summer vacation 2022 ends on September 11th. On Monday, September 12, Turkish students go to school.

The first semester break begins on Monday, 14 November and ends on Friday, 18 November. Taking into account two days off before and after, schoolchildren will rest for 9 days, from November 12 to November 20 inclusive.

Winter holidays (semester holidays) in the 2022-2023 academic year will last from Monday, 23 January to Friday, 3 February. The situation with weekends is the same as with semester holidays. In total, Turkish schools will be closed for the winter holidays for 16 days, from January 21 to February 5 inclusive.

The second semester break will last from Monday, 17 to Thursday, 20 April. Taking into account the weekend on the holiday of Eid al-Fitr, schoolchildren will rest for 9 days. The actual semester break will last from 15 to 23 April inclusive.

Summer holidays in 2023 will begin on Monday, 19 June. Ends Friday, September 8th. Respectively:

The last school day of 2022-2023 is June 17.
The first day of 2023-2024 is September 11th.

National holidays for schoolchildren in Turkey

Apart from ordinary holidays, Turkish schools are closed on national holidays. In the 2022-2023 academic year, these will be:

October 29, 2022 – Republic Day;
January 1 – New Year;
April 21-23 – Eid al-Fitr;
April 23 – Children’s Day;
May 1 – Labor Day;
May 19 – Youth and Sports Day.
