Date – not a dogma?
The territory of Norway consists of 11 fylke (analogues of an county or province). Each fylke is divided into municipalities (communes). Oddly enough, the Ministry of Education and Research has nothing to do with the scheduling of school holidays. It is determined by the administration of each fylke.
After the vacation dates for schools are determined, they are sent to the municipalities. The administration of each municipality has the right to change them. The administration of municipalities edits the schedule of school holidays when it is really necessary. For example, due to weather and climatic conditions, geographical location.
IMPORTANT! This publication contains the officially approved vacation dates in Norwegian schools for 2022-2023. Some municipalities may change them. Therefore, check the dates of school holidays with the school administration or on their website!
