Peculiarities of the Czech school system

In schools in the Czech Republic, the school year is divided into two half-years. The first lasts from the beginning of September to February, the second lasts from February to June inclusive. Czech schools have 5 holiday periods and one semester break:

  1. Autumn holidays;
  2. Christmas holidays;
  3. Semester break;
  4. Spring break; 4;
  5. Easter holidays;
  6. Summer holidays.

The dates of school holidays in the Czech Republic are determined by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. They are the same throughout the Czech Republic, except for the spring holidays. The start and end dates depend on the county, municipality, or city district (for Prague).

In this publication, we have separately posted information about spring holidays in schools in the Czech Republic for the years 2022 and 2023. Note that school principals may declare extra days off “for serious organizational or technical reasons”. Sometimes this is done to combine Saturday and Sunday holidays with public holidays.
