School holidays in Spain 2021-2022

In this publication, School-Holidays.Info has compiled information about the school holidays in Spain for the 2021-2022 school year. We have listed the start and end dates for the summer, Christmas (winter), and Easter (spring) holidays. We have also collected the dates for national and regional holidays on which pupils have a break from school.

School holidays in Spain 2021-2022

The school year in Spain starts at the beginning/middle of September and ends in mid/late June. Unlike most other countries, students in Spain have only three holidays:

• Summer;
• Christmas (winter) holidays;
• Easter.

There are many holidays in Spain. They are divided into national and regional holidays. Schools all over the country are closed for the national holidays. The regional holidays are celebrated in the individual regions. But where they are celebrated, students do not go to school either. We will list them later in the article.

Beginning of the school year (end of summer holidays) 2021 in Spain

The Spanish educational system consists of pre-schools and schools. Schooling is divided into three periods:

1. Primary (educación primaria);
2. Secondary (educación secundaria obligatoria);
3. Bachillerato.

The length and dates of the summer school holidays in Spain are determined separately for each autonomous region and autonomous city (Melilla and Ceuta). In 2021, the summer holidays in Spain will end at the beginning of September. The beginning of the school year does not coincide with the beginning of the Bachillerato (primary school), secondary school, or Bachillerato (bachillerato). Here is a full list of the dates:

Christmas holidays in Spain 2021-2022

Christmas holidays in Spanish schools begin on December 22, 23, or 24, 2021, and end on January 9, 2022. It all depends on the autonomous region or city. Here are the dates for the Christmas school holidays in Spain for the school year 2021-2022:

• 22 December 2021 to 9 January 2022: Aragon, Galicia;
• From 23 December 2021 to 9 January 2022: Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, the Community of Valencia, the Canary Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Madrid, Melilla, Navarra, Rioja, Ceuta and Extremadura.
• From 24 December 2021 to 9 January 2022: Asturias, Cantabria, Murcia, Basque Country.

Easter holidays in Spain in 2022

This weekend will last from 5 to 11 days for students. The start and end dates of the Easter holidays vary from region to region. The dates vary from year to year as there is no fixed date for the Easter holiday. Here are the dates for the Easter holidays in Spain in 2022 and the regions they apply to:

• 14 to 18 April: Basque Country.
• From 14 to 24 April: Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Navarra.
• April 14 to 25: Valencian Community (Valencia).
• April 2nd to 17th: Melilla, Ceuta.
• 7 to 17 April: Castile and León.
• 8 to 18 April: Madrid.
• April 9 to 17: Andalucía, Asturias, the Canary Islands, Murcia, Rioja.
• 9 to 18 April: Aragon, Galicia, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Extremadura.

When are the summer holidays in Spain 2022?

Depending on the autonomous region or city, the school holidays in Spain start between 17 June and 24 June 2022. By «start of school holidays» we mean the last day of the school year. Here is the table by region in alphabetical order:

National Holidays for the school year 2021-2022

Schools and pre-schools are closed on national holidays. We provide  a list of these days in the school year 2021-2022:

National Holidays in 2021

• 1 November: All Saints’ Day
• 6 December: Spanish Constitution Day;
• 8 December: Immaculate Conception;
• 25 December: Christmas Day.

National Holidays in 2022

• 1 January: New Year’s Day;
• 6 January: Epiphany;
• 15 April: Good Friday in 2022;
• 15 August: Assumption of the Virgin Mary;
