Features of education in Andorran schools
The Principality of Andorra is a multinational country. The four largest ethnic groups are:
- Andorrans: 48-49%;
- Spaniards: 24-25% (divided between Spanish and Catalan speakers);
- Portugueses: 11-12%;
- Frenchs: 4-5%.
There are three types of schools in the principality – Andorran, Catalan and French. Teaching in them is conducted in the corresponding language. For unknown reasons, Portugal did not open its schools. Spain limited itself to schools where they speak Catalan, and did not organize education in Spanish.
Children from the age of 6 attend elementary school. Depending on the system, after 5 or 6 years they move on to junior high school. The terms of study are 6 and 4 years in Andorran and Catalan schools, 5 and 3 years in French schools.
School holidays in Andorra 2022-2023
Below we provide the official school calendar in Andorran schools for the 2022-2023 academic year.
- Summer holidays 2022: from July 2 to September 8;
- Holidays for the Cathedral of All Saints (All Saints Day): from Monday 31 October to Friday 4 November;
- Christmas holidays: from 23 (Friday) December 2022 to 6 January (Friday) 2023;
- Carnival holidays: from Monday 20 to Sunday 26 February;
- Easter holidays: from 3 to 14 April;
- Pentecost (Holy Trinity Day): May 29 and 30;
- Summer holidays 2023: from 1 July.
Important!
Andorra has two private schools. The vacation schedule in them may differ from the official one and change from year to year.
