Days off in Finland for holidays

There are 13 national (public) holidays in Finland, a list of which is given below. These days are days off for everyone – working and students. Unlike many other countries, Midsummer Eve (Juhannus Eve), Christmas Eve and Easter Eve are not public holidays and weekends under the Holiday Law.

Interesting fact

Finnish Independence Day is a national holiday and public holiday. But all those employed on this day are paid a salary. In many countries, there is no payroll on the national day.

The employment contract may specify additional days off for holidays that are not state holidays. This is determined privately. The contract also specifies when the employee must work on public holidays. Usually such days are paid at a higher rate, like overtime.
